He returned to the waterfall in 1936 and landed his plane on a swampy ground above Auyan Tepui. So the plane stayed there for exactly 33 years until it was lifted by a helicopter. Don’t worry, Angel managed to get back from the waterfall in 11 days. Angel’s plane is currently on display at the Aviation Museum in Maracay, Venezuela. The plane seen at the top of the waterfall is a copy of Angel’s plane.

The official height of the waterfalls was determined by the National Geographic Society research in 1949. Canaima National Park, where the waterfalls are located, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
