The timeless treasure hunt
It’s very simple, if you have imagination and a playful spirit, this game can last as long as your child is bored! Your mission: list the components of the “treasure” to be discovered. Ex. a white bird, a dog in a car window, a double letter or a series of numbers on a license plate, a speed limit sign, a sign on the front of a business, etc.
Origami
As for manual work, a simple sheet of paper can be used as a support for origami, a Japanese art for which you will find numerous models and tutorials on the Internet, from a simple paper plane to a more elaborate dragon.
The longest sentence
The driver of the car begins the sentence with a first word. The next player must then repeat this word and add a second one. The third must repeat the first two words before adding their own and so on. For example: I/I am/I am a/I am a cat/… Those who make a mistake in listing the sentence are eliminated, until only one winner remains.
The play of colors
A color is given by the driver. Passengers must then find as many things of that color as possible on the exterior of the vehicle. An object cannot be identified twice. The person who finds the most in a given period of time wins the game.
The first to find
The driver points to an object to find outside, for example: a yellow car, someone with a beard, a sign with a moose, etc. The first person to find the object in question scores a point and designates the next object to find.
It starts with…
The driver chooses a letter of the alphabet and the passengers must take turns naming a word that begins with that letter, until someone is no longer able to continue the sequence. This person is thus eliminated and the game can continue with the others with a new letter.
Once upon a time…
Invent the beginning of a story and invite your child to imagine the rest. An example ? “Once upon a time, there was a small cabin alone in the heart of a forest…” Does this seem difficult to you? You will be surprised by the infinite inspiration that children can have! Unlike adults, they know how to animate objects. Obviously, encourage the player’s creativity process by adding your two cents between each of his interventions.
If I was…
Here again, you will be called upon to stimulate the imagination of your offspring. Choose an animal together and take turns imagining what you would do in its place. For example, start the game with “If I were a bird, I would fly to the sea”; ask your child to say what he or she would do in the shoes of a bird!
Play “Guess What I’m Thinking”
Another great classic to relieve boredom, your children can spend hours there. (Okay, they always choose the horse or the rabbit, so it’s a bit easy but oh well…) The principle: one of the players chooses an animal / a person / a character in their head and the others ask a question each in turn to try to guess. Great for developing logic and deduction, keeping children busy in the car and saying goodbye to boredom.
The puzzles
Exception to the rule, phones and other tablets are authorized to play rebuses, except for the driver! You will easily find rebus generators on the Internet: you submit a sentence, it gives you a series of drawings! All you have to do is show it to other players. Start with one!
Neither yes nor no
Another great classic among car games with children! Try to trick them by rephrasing the questions. “You did say that…?”, “Are you sure…?” » Will you be smart enough to get them to say “yes” or “no”?
Play co-pilot
Some children love the activity of guiding the driver using GPS. Trust the technology, but turn off the sound: your child will tell you if and when to turn right, go straight, etc.
The name of the cities
A city is given by the driver. The other passengers must then take turns finding a city that begins with the last letter of the named city. For example: London / Nice / Essen
The celebrity game
A first name is given by one of the players. All passengers must then take turns naming a famous person with that first name. For example, with John, Johnny Depp, John Taylor etc. The one who can no longer continue the chain is eliminated and the other passengers continue with another first name until only one winning person remains.
I know the song
Each in turn, the passengers hum a piece of music and the others must find what song it is. You can also do a variation of this game by singing the words of the song, which the others must complete.
