Sapanca Lake Tour | Where is Sapanca Lake?

Sapanca Lake is among the places to visit in Sakarya. The lake has made its name known to the whole world with its wonderful atmosphere. It is a popular place due to its beauty and proximity to İstanbul. If you haven’t been to Sapanca Lake before, you can rent a car in Sakarya and plan a trip to this magnificent place.

The Indispensable Point of Winter Holidays: Sapanca Lake

While I was looking at the route with the map for the winter holiday, Sapanca Lake caught my eye. This lake was actually a place I’ve always heard of but could not turn the direction of my route. I finally got the chance to visit Sapanca this winter!

Where is Sapanca Lake?

Sapanca is a district of Sakarya. The district actually hosts only one shore of Sapanca Lake. So if you go to Uzunkum or Serdivan in Sakarya, you can see Sapanca Lake. In addition, Kazakburun, Yeni Eşme and Eski Eşme, which are within the boundaries of Kocaeli, are among the places located on the shore of Sapanca Lake.

For example, if you are staying in Kırkpınar like me, there is a 12-kilometer road ahead of you. That’s why I can recommend you to rent a car. At least you can consider renting a car after reaching Sakarya. Because it is very difficult to move around Sapanca Lake by public transport. I can even say that it is almost impossible, especially if you want to see the opposite shores.

Hotels in Sapanca

Let’s come to where I stay… Since I was looking for places close to the coast in Sapanca, the best plan seemed to be staying in Kırkpınar. That’s why I stayed in a sweet wooden house in Kırkpınar. The important point here is; Sapanca reservations are flooded by Istanbulites, especially on weekends. Therefore, it is useful to make your reservation beforehand. For example, I lost the room of the boutique hotel I was planning to book three days ago. If you do not want to encounter such a situation, I would say you should definitely book it a week before you go.

Later I can say that Sapanca is really cold. Although the indoor and foggy weather offers a magnificent atmosphere, you really have a hard time outside. For this reason, definitely ask for the heating system in your accommodation and have it checked. Only your heater will never do your job. You can choose the most suitable hotel or hostel for you with similar criteria. I would also prefer to get as close to the coastal area as possible, waking up in the morning hearing the sounds of hundreds of birds on the lake will make you feel magnificent.

What To Do in Sapanca?

My aim was to see the center of Sapanca on the first day. That’s why I set off from Kırkpınar to the center. At a distance of about 12 kilometers. I decided to go from the coastal area, not from the city. Since many restaurants and breakfast houses are located on the shore, you cannot go near the shore, but you can travel through the pleasant wooded road on the upper street.

It is possible to reach the shore when you come to the center of Sapanca. There are also various cafes and restaurants there. So it is not possible to go hungry in Sapanca. Obviously, there is not much to do in the center, you can visit the streets selling souvenirs. Later, I returned to Kırkpınar and enjoyed the sunset and retreated to my room when it was very cold around the afternoon. On the second day, I preferred to spend time only in Kırkpınar. I wanted to explore this place a little bit.

After having breakfast at a restaurant on the lake, I started walking along the Kırkpınar shore. There are so many street animals in Sapanca that the little ones never leave you alone. I even took pictures with a few of them. It was a very enjoyable place for a weekend getaway. I highly recommend it especially for those who are looking for peace and tranquility.

Sapanca hosted a very productive holiday for me, with the stillness of the lake and the winter atmosphere where the sun comes out and flee from time to time. By the way, I loved all the natural conditions of Sapanca, which I visited during the winter season, except for the temperature that almost fell to freezing point at night. Still, I think it should definitely be visited in winter. After walking by the lake during the day, you can spend time in your room as you wish in the evening. I recommend Sapanca Lake and Kırkpınar location to everyone.
